Pony Leasing

  • We purchase ponies from auctions where horses are sold to meat buyers and then transported to Canada & Mexico for slaughter.  This is a very cruel and inhumane process in which these animals endure major pain and suffering.  We get them the medical care they need, rehabilitate and train them and then lease them fully equipped to children.  When the child outgrows the pony he/she may trade the pony for a larger one or maybe they are ready for a horse or maybe the whole pony thing just isn't for them!  This way the pony will never end up back at the auction and the child won't have the guilt of having to "get rid" of their beloved pet that they've outgrown or lost interest in.

On & Off Premise Leasing

When leasing a pony from Happy Tails Farm you have absolutely nothing to worry about.  We help you every step of the way.  Depending on where you are located and where the most convenient place is for you will determine whether you want an on or off premise lease because you want to get the most out of it.

An On Premise Lease is where you keep the pony right here at the farm and we take care of everything from feeding to bathing.  If you have your own facilities then  that would be considered an Off Premise Lease and we will bring the pony to you and then you are responsible for all daily, weekly and monthly care and so on.  If you don't have your own facility and ours is inconvenient then we will gladly help you find one that suits your needs and budget.

  • Training

All of our ponies go through a rigorous training program prior to leasing but the ponies aren't the only ones that need training.  Included with your lease is 6 lessons to get you started.  We even offer Mommy/Daddy and Me classes so they can help their rider. Just remember, there is no such thing as a child safe horse or pony.  They are still animals and just like a bike you can and probably will fall off at some point and it will probably be because of something the rider did wrong.

Equipment

The pony comes with everything a little rider needs such as a saddle, grooming supplies, a winter blanket and a helmet.  Everything adjusted and fitted to horse and rider for the best experience possible.

Vet & Farrier

The Yearly Vet Check (exam, shots and teeth floating) is included in your lease price and provided there are no injuries, accidents or illnesses this is the only vet care the pony will need.  Anything beyond the yearly check is your responsibility.  If the pony is located in the area where our vet practices then the pony will remain under her care.  If the location is out of her area then we will assist you finding one that operates in your area.

The Farrier will be scheduled to come to trim the pony's feet every 6-8 weeks or as needed.  The Farrier's visit is also included in your lease and it's to trim the pony's feet, not shoes.  If you choose to have the pony shoed for whatever reason, that would be your responsibility.

Lesson Programs

Included with your lease is 6 lessons to get you started.  After the 6 lessons you may continue with the program at a rate of $25.00/hr. this will help you hone your skills and improve knowledge in horsemanship to find your place in the horse world.

Group Trail Rides

Group trail rides are offered to our lease and lesson participants.  When it is determined that your skills are proficient enough for you to safely ride the trails then you may join us for a 1 hour excursion held several times a week for just $10.00 and in no time you'll be out there on your own, safely with another participant riding those trails!

  • Ponies Available for lease
  • Mickey

Mickey is a gorgeous 11 hand Palomino Pony.  He's 16 years old and came from Lollipop Farm in Rochester, NY.  He was seized by the Humane Society with 30 other starved horses.  He was then adopted and returned for behavior problems.  He then came here for my son who along with the trainer has spent countless hours working with him and is now the most wonderful little guy.  He is sweet, lovable and gentle and did I mention beautiful!!! (I'm not prejudice at all am I?)

Clarabelle

Miss Belle is a beautiful 11.5 hand Appaloosa Pony.  She's 15 years old and came from the Sugar Creek Auction in Ohio.  We didn't know anything about her until we paid for her at the end of the auction and we received a note from her former owner stating that the "boys" rode and drove her to school and is 100% road safe.  With that said we assume she was Amish owned and has proven to be the gem of the herd.  Nothing shakes her except the Vet!  But then again I don't believe she ever had much for vet care before she came here.  She does lessons for beginners, trail rides and pony rides at carnivals and parties.  She is an amazing and gentle girl!

 Buddy (aka Tank)

Buddy is a handsome 12+ hand Paint Pony.  He's 9 years old and also came from the Sugar Creek Auction.  We purchased him directly from the buyer after the auction at an elevated price because we were afraid of what would happen to him.  We assume he was someones backyard pony that got into the wrong hands.  He was extremely overweight and displayed "spoiled" behaviors.  He was very friendly and cooperative.  Someone really cared for him!  Since he came here he has lost a couple hundred pounds, has a partial lease out on him, does lessons for all levels, trail rides, pony rides and is learning to jump and doing very well!
